We thought it’d be cool if we were about to automatically place our trip photos on a map, as we took them. You can check out the result here. The solution we ended up using utilizes two Wordpress plugins and the Flickr geoRSS feed system.
- Download and install the NextGEN Gallery plugin. (You will not be using this, but it is required for the next plugin.)
- Download and install the XML Google Maps plugin.
- Go into the XML Google Maps settings in Wordpress and set up your embed map size, etc.
- Go to Flickr. You can either get the geoFeed of your entire Photostream, or of a single tag (I created a roadtrip08 tag and used that). In either case, there is a “geoFeed” link at the bottom. (You can’t do it for a Set as of right now. I don’t know why.)
- When writing a Wordpress post, simply insert
[xmlgm {http://YOUR-FLICKR-GEOFEED-URL}]
into the post and you’re good to go.
